Hey, I'm Anthony! This website used to be focused on my photography, but I’ve since turned it into a blog detailing my career switch from a business major to a pre-med major after 10 years and my plans to become a physician assistant in my mid 30s. I also occasionally like to explore my thoughts on books that I read.

Currently I’m a second year PA Student and have been extensively blogging about discoveries and insights on studying throughout my clinical year!

A Short Photographic History

Since I picked up our family digital camera fifteen years ago, I have always been fascinated with taking pictures. When I joined the programming board at Penn State, I realize we had a budget for a real camera. So I suggested we purchase a Canon DSLR... and I didn't put that thing down. I thought I was hot stuff, so I switched the camera to manual, and shot in black and white. Then I got frustrated because all of my pictures were blurry.

I finally figured out that shooting in automatic modes was completely fine (most of the pros shoot in some type of automatic mode!), and decided to buy my own DSLR in 2011! I was looking for a challenging setting to take my photography to the next level, so I decided to combine two of my passions and become a concert photographer. It was unreal to be an armslength away from my favorite bands like Jimmy Eat World, Brand New, Anberlin, The Wonder Years, Cartel, Mat Kearney, and more. I was able to shoot at venues, large and small, all over the Philadelphia area. What I learned was that concert photography is really, really hard. It's dark, and there are fog machines, and everything is unpredictable (lights that look cool to an audience can look awful from a camera's perspective). I had never considered turning my hobby into more of a business, so I started looking into other avenues.

Enter wedding photography. I had never shot a wedding before, so I emailed a ton of wedding photographers in the area hoping that someone would get back to me... and a couple did! I shot as an apprentice for about six months until I was ready to tackle entire weddings on my own. Weddings were easier than concerts because I had more light and predicable conditions to work with but they came with their own set of difficutlties because you need to be more involved with your subjects. Things like posing, hair, and backgrounds don't really come into play for concerts.

So now I combine what I learned over the years into my current work. I now shoot mostly weddings, portraits, engagements, and events, but I'll take a picture of almost anything! If you're interested in working with me, let me know!

Beginnings in Music

Being a concert photographer was amazing; it formed the foundation for the photographer that I am today. Here are some of the bands I've shot through the years!
